Community Centre

This is my Final Year Project. This design is a heavily socially focused, related to issues of poverty in Portsmouth. I took extensive research to establish the needs of the users using questionnaires and social media surveys. This project challenged me to focus on the underprivileged and tackle the local social issue of poverty in Portsmouth. Using this research I designed a social hub, which not only incorporated a food bank and soup kitchen but also created means of social and educational interaction, something the area lacked. To reinforce the link to local people the buildings façade displays the faces of local heroes. The faces on the facade are to be changed annually, as an incentive for students to make progress and become a hero also.

Surrounding Buildings Diagram
-The surrounding buildings (most were council flats), had very inward facing plans, promoting segregation. in response to this I designed a structure which created a 'New Community Heart' and promoted unity.
